Time Travel…

BACK TO THE FUTURE, Christopher Lloyd, Michael J. Fox, 1985. (c) MCA/Universal Pictures -.

If my calculations are correct, when this baby hits 88 miles per hour… you’re gonna see some serious shit! These are the words of Dr. Emmett Brown (pictured above on left) in the classic 1985 movie “Back to the Future”, a movie based around the idea of time travel, which requires a DeLorean (futuristic looking sports vehicle produced 1981-1983), a flux capacitor and a requirement of the vehicle reaching a speed of 88 miles per hour. I have found you don’t necessarily need a DeLorean to achieve time-travel, it can be done via another method, music.

Time travel through music is quite unpredictable and not planned, it can occur as you are walking through the mall, entering a building, at the gym, driving in your vehicle, or any other occurrence in your day when you hear a song. A certain song will begin to play, and you will instantly be transported back to a moment in time. You can vividly see the people that were with you at that time, the location is just as vivid as the people and you can almost feel and smell the surrounding. Most of the time, the moments that come to mind are not some grandiose event but to my surprise a passing moment in time. It often makes me wonder, why that moment? What about the song and the moment are united? Lyrics? Rhythm? Both?

This blog was created as a personal journey through songs that have touched me and the exploration of those songs to determine that moment in time to which I am transported. Hopefully, this will make others explore their musical history and bring back some wonderful memories.
